Nov. 2: Emmylou Harris’ cover of Dolly Parton’s sad story song “To Daddy” hit the stores 32 years ago today, on its way to reaching No. 3 on Billboard‘s country chart. It was one of three hit singles off Harris’ acclaimed 1978 album, Quarter Moon In a Ten Cent Town.

My exposure to the song was from Emmylou’s next album, Profile: Best of Emmylou Harris, also from ’78. Between my folks and me, the grooves were just about worn down from listening to that record over and over again. So many great songs.

Her career is too prolific and varied for me to deal with here. But you can learn more about it via profiles on Allmusic.com and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Here’s her discography.
