April 8

Why today? It’s birthday No. 50 for John Schneider (a k a Bo Duke), who not only is an actor but is a fine country singer.

About the record: MCA 52407, recorded in the spring of 1984 at Nashville’s Sound Stage Studio. Released in June of that year, it reached the top of Billboard‘s country chart. Also appeared on Too Good To Stop Now, MCA 5495, which reached No. 4 on Billboard‘s country album chart.

This is a stone country song by Bob McDill and Dickey Lee, a number Schneider had to practically fight to record. That’s because everyone was pitching the pop-country material so prevalent in the mid-1980s. But Schneider wanted none of that. He talked about the song, his experience recording for famed producer Jimmy Bowen, and other facets of his career last fall in an interview for the LimeWire Music Blog.
